Michelle Southern reporting.
The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s office says the K-9 Thor who was attacked and stabbed during a pursuit of a burglary suspect, is in recovery and doing well. Sheriff Jack Strain says they are hopeful Thor can return to work sooner than later, but they are taking it day by day starting with when doctors remove the drain tube from the surgery site.

"Then we'll be able to reunite Thor with his handler, then the process will begin to determine when and if he will be able to return to duty," said Strain.
Strain says deputies shot the suspect, 30-year-old Darien Greenwood, when he began stabbing Thor. Greenwood was pronounced dead at a local hospital and the incident is under investigation.
Sheriff Jack Strain says the outpouring of support and prayers for Thor have been coming from all over.
"We've had almost 700,000 likes on our Facebook page," says Strain. "That's the kind of response we've gotten from throughout the country and throughout the world."
Strain says Greenwood was wielding a 4-6 inch switch blade and had it not been for Thor intervening, they believe the suspect could have stabbed and killed the deputy. He says the way Thor put his own life on the line for his partner, is an incredible situation.
"It really brings it home as to how close the partnership is between K-9 and handler," said Strain.
