State Police are investigating the case of a Lafayette Police Officer involved shooting. LSP Trooper Stephen Hammons says law enforcement received a complaint on Sunday regarding an attempted suicide. He says when officers arrived, they found 34-year-old Harold Bastin in the yard of the house,
"Bastin who was armed with a hand gun engaged officers and an officer with the Lafayette Police Department then fatally shot Bastin," Hammons said.
Bastin was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner. No officers were injured and the case remains under investigation.
Authorities who searched the home of a Minnesota man who shot and killed two teens testified Wednesday that they found an audio recorder that was turned on, an operating surveillance system and a cellphone jamming device.
