One person is dead and seven are injured after another explosion occurred at an Ascension Parish chemical plant. This latest incident happened at CF Industries in Donaldsonville at 6:15 Friday night.

State Police Colonel Mike Edmonson says 55-year-old Rocky Morris of Belle Rose was killed when a blast occurred as nitrogen was being off loaded from a tank truck.

"There was some sort of catastrophic failure," Edmonson said. "We don't know if it was mechanical, we don't know if it was caused over pressurization. We'll find that out."

It's a second straight day a fatal explosion has occured at an Ascension Parish plant. Just a few miles away, two people were killed in a blast on Thursday in Geismar.

"The irony of this has not escaped us of a back-to-back incident of such significance" Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley said.

The seven people injured in this latest incident are reportedly in fair or stable condition.

This isn't the first deadly explosion at the CF Industries plant in Donaldsonville. In 2000, three workers were killed in a blast and subsequent fire at the facility.

OSHA cited the company for 14 allegedly safety and health violations last year and fined CF Industries 150-thousand dollars.
