When Charlie Rauh began his musical career, he never thought it would end up going to the dogs, but that’s exactly what has happened. For the last month, he’s served as composer in residence at LSU’s School of Veterinary Medicine.
“I didn’t have writing animal music on my bingo card at the beginning of this year but I’m really grateful to be here and been a really fascinating sort of expansion of how I compose music,” said Rauh.
Before it was literature that inspired his music, then Rauh was asked to provide music for animals and clinicians as they performed procedures. He says the experience has been extremely positive…
“And we’ve seen a lot of interesting results that are kind of feeding into lots of discussions and theorizing and hopefully some future research on it,” said Rauh.
To wrap up his residency, Rauh is holding a concert Tuesday evening at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine Library at 5:30, and he says his compositions will also be released to the public.
“And the label called Destiny Records has agreed to work with LSU on releasing the music and also leaving the music with LSU Vet Med’s use for their own purposes,” said Rauh.
